Game 107 – Having a devil of a time with the Rays

For the 3rd time this yr the Rays have beaten Halladay. In Orlando he went the distance (8 inning CG) giving up 5 runs in losing 5-3. Then in Tampa he lost 6-4 giving up 5 runs in 6 innings. Now he gives up 3 runs in 8 innings but loses 3-0. Halladay only gave up 1 run through the 1st 7 innings (a solo HR to Hinske, his 3rd against the Jays this yr). He ran into some problems in the 8th though, and it all started w/a 2 out BB (his 3rd of the game). Halladay got the 1st 2 batters of the inning then he walked Upton. That was followed by a 1B by Crawford and a 2-run 3B by Longoria providing Garza a little cushion.

Garza did not actually need the extra runs as he dominated the Jays. He gave up only 5 hits and 1 walk and faced only 3 over the minimum (thanks to 3 DP’s). Over his last 2 starts against the Jays Garza has thrown 16.2 innings w/o giving up a run. He has given up just 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 11. In fact in the 2 games only 4 runners have reached 2nd base and none have even made it to 3rd.

Lyle Overbay was the lone bright spot for the Jays offensively as he picked up a pair of 1B’s in 3 AB’s. Scott Rolen is now up to 18 hitless AB’s.

Onto the stats:
Adv: Iwamura
P-Adv: Halladay (4)
