Good to see the Jays put the hammer down and sweep the struggling Royals. Another good outing from Marcum, even though he beaned 3 batters. In fact two of those led to the only runs he gave up. He hit back-to-back batters to lead off the 6th and then after some sloppy defensive plays the Royals managed to push across 2 runs in the inning w/o registering a hit.
I’ve criticized Peavy a lot for his calls at 3B, well what was the Royals coach doing waving Gordon home in the 8th down by 5, especially w/only 1 out. When you are down by that much late in the game you cannot afford to have any runners thrown out at any base. Even though it took a great throw from Rios a player shouldn’t be sent in that situation unless there is no doubt.
The Jays managed to put together a nice 3 for 9 w/RISP this game. They also had the power going w/2 HR’s and 3 2B’s. It was also good to see the Jays add on runs and not just sit on their early lead giving their opponent a chance to get back in the game. It seems that has one happened one too many times this season.
