Kind of a textbook game for the Jays, starter goes 7, bring in the setup man for 1, and closer for 1. Although McGowan gave up 9 hits, it was a good sign that he did not walk anyone. I wouldn’t have a problem leaving McGowan in for the 8th but w/3 of the next 4 hitters being LH it is not a bad idea to go to the LH Downs. Plus after 2 straight CG’s the entire bullpen had at least 2 days off.
Once again Gathright is dropping down bunts. Barajas made a big mistake on Gathright’s bunt in the 5th. After fielding it he took a look at 3rd, then threw to 1st but was too late. Barajas has to know the speed of the runner and that he doesn’t have time to spare w/Gathright running.
The Jays managed an ok 3 for 12 w/RISP. The good thing was 2 drove in runs and the other setup a 1st and 3rd none out. Meanwhile the Royals managed a 2 for 5 w/RISP but neither scored a run as Rios nailed Guillen trying to score on Butler’s 1B in the 4th and the other hit was Gathright’s bunt single which loaded the bases w/none out. That setup the Royals only run on a SF but thanks to Stewart throwing out Pena at 3rd on the play the Royals only got the one.
Let’s check the stats:
Adv+: Gathright, Barajas (2)
P-Adv+: Meche, McGowan (5)
NAdv: Overbay (6)
P-NAdv: Gobble
WG: Pena, Gathright, Rios (2)
DE: Gordon, Scutaro (2)
ME(f): Barajas (1)
