Game 51 – Designated Runner

Impressive performance from Litsch giving up just 7 hits and 1 walk for the CG shutout. Also impressive was the fact he needed just 103 pitches. Litsch held the Royals to an 0 for 8 w/RISP. Every start he makes he is convincing me a little more.

Only Joey Gathright could get away w/such a bad bunt. I think he is the faster player in baseball. If only he could get on base more. It is no wonder he tries to bunt for a hit so often, he struggles getting hits the conventional way and even a half decent bunt he can beat out.

I can’t entirely blame Peavy for sending Stewart in the 1st on the Hill 2B b/c I thought he would score too, but we were both wrong. I underestimated Pena’s arm and that is something 3B coaches have to know, not just the OF’s arm strength but the INF’s who will be the cutoff men. Clearly that was not a risk Peavy should have took w/nobody out. You hate to ruin a chance to take a big lead early but luckily the Jays picked up Peavy and ended up w/4 on the board thanks to Wilkerson’s slam.

Hochevar settled in after the 1st until running into a little jam in the 6th. It will be interesting to watch and see if Hochevar can join Greinke at the top of the Royals rotation and give them a solid 1-2 punch in a couple yrs.

On to the stats:
NAdv: Gordon, Wilkerson (2), Rolen (2)
P-NAdv: Hochevar, Ramirez, Litsch (2)
