Game 39 – Doubleheader Opener

For the 2nd straight game the Jays fail to score a run, this time its Carmona who shuts them down. The Jays only managed to get 2 runners into scoring position so only went 0 for 3 w/RISP. Carmona only struck out 3 Jays but he got 17 outs via the ground ball including 2 DP’s.

Burnett was great for 5 innings only giving up 1 hit, and facing 2 over the minimum (1 reached on error), but he ran into some problems in the 6th and 7th and w/TOR’s lack of offence that was enough to take the loss. I was surprised to see Burnett head out there for the 8th. Sure he was on 5 days rest but he was already over 100 pitches and had given up runs in each of the last 2 innings. Given the rainout yesterday the bullpen was rested and you cannot be worried about needing all you relievers for the 2nd game of the doubleheader.

Rolen had the right idea of trying to get to 3rd w/1 out but he was thrown out easily by Francisco. It is a good time to be aggressive w/1 out but not when you are thrown out by that much.

On to the stats:
WG: Garko
ME(r): Rolen (3)
