Game 33 – Maximizing Resources

With the way these 2 offences have been performing why is it not surprising to see the series wrap up with a 1-0 game. The two teams combined to go 0 for 13 w/RISP as the lone run came on a solo HR.

Some good news as Gibbons finally decides to bring McDonald in as a defensive replacement late in the game w/the Jays leading. Hopefully this is a sign that they are willing to use all available tools in order to win.

Gibbons also used Eckstein in the 9 hole for the 1st time, and I think the lineup looks better that way. If Gibbons insists on batting Rios leadoff, than at least he has 2 decent OBP guys hitting 8-9 in Zaun and Eckstein and may actually still get some RBI opportunities. I’m not sure if Stewart is the answer in the 2-hole but I think he is the best fit right now. Eventually I think Hill fits the 2 spot but right now he needs to learn more patience and increase the OBP if he is going to hit at the top of the order.

I think I’ve said this before about McGowan but it is the way he has pitched himself out of jams that is impressing me. In the 3rd inning he had 2nd and 3rd none out and he retired the top of the order w/o allowing a run to score. My stats are backing that up to as this was the 8th time he has faced a man at 2nd none out situation and the 7th time he has retired the hitter w/o the runner advancing to 3rd. Of course that doesn’t mean the runner didn’t eventually score in all those situations but he is not giving them easy runs where you score the runner w/o a hit.

The walks are concerning from Ryan but hears hoping it was just a temporary loss of control and not some other problem. At least he got out of it thanks to a nifty 1-2-3 DP.

Stats:
NAdv: Cabrera, Overbay (4)
P-NAdv: Vazquez, McGowan (7)
ME(r): Rolen (2)
