Day 45 – My First Ever Major League Game

After the double header I went out and got myself some supper and then back to the hotel to pick up my stuff and head to the airport for my early morning flight. Despite the short distance to Minneapolis I had to transfer in Chicago. I made it to Minneapolis ok and I was back in some familiar territory. Growing up near Winnipeg meant the closest big league team was Minnesota, so there were many summer vacations that we made our way through Minneapolis and caught a few games.

In fact, my 1st major league game came at the Metrodome back in 1991. The bash brothers, Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco, along w/the rest of the A’s were visiting for a 4 game series. We went to see the first 3 games of the series. So I have a lot of fond memories at the Metrodome, but coming back now after visiting all these other ballparks, it sure is a good thing they are getting a new stadium. The stadium isn’t much to look at and the baggy in RF is ridiculous. The fact that they use a baggy as a wall tells you everything you need to know. Maybe the stadium makes more sense for football, but it certainly isn’t a good baseball stadium. I’m very surprised that they are going w/an open air stadium for their new one. Minneapolis is not that far south of Wpg and I know how cold it can be in April.
