Game 13 – Saving Your Bullets

I was surprised to not see Rios PH for Stairs in the 8th once Walker was brought in. I thought maybe Rios was being benched after his misplay in RF on Sun., until he came out to PH for Overbay in the 9th. Even though you knew Sherill would be pitching the 9th, I would have used Rios in the 8th when he could tie the game or at least extend it with your 3-4-5 hitters coming up compared to the 9th where he would have the 7-8-9 hitters following him. If you get the chance to tie the game in the 7th or 8th, I say use your bat then do not leave him on the bench hoping for a good situation in the 9th. As it happened the Jays once again had a runner on for Rios but b/c BAL added an insurance run in the 8th the Jays were now down by 3 meaning Rios no longer represented the tying run.

The Jays once again missed an opportunity to jump out to a big early lead after 3 straight 1-out singles in the 1st scoring one, but Thomas grounded into a DP. After that the Jays never had 2 runners on base the rest of the game unless you count the 2-run HR by Rios in the 9th. For 7.1 of those innings they were facing Matt Albers and Jim Johnson, not exactly household names.

On with the stats:
NAdv: Markakis
P-NAdv: McGowan (4)
